Return of the James Bond Gang ?
I remember hearing and reading about about this gang years ago...........
Burglaries may have been the work of the James Bond Gang... http://www.nj.com/independentpress/i...ns_to_loc.html Two recent residential burglaries in Berkeley Heights may have been the work of the infamous James Bond Gang, which operated in the area seven years ago, according to a report issued by the Newark FBI office. By e-mail, New Providence Deputy Police Chief Scott Torre notified neighborhood watch captains in the borough of the gang's return. He described a sophisticated organization of skilled residential burglars who are again active in the tri-state area. "Although past arrests, indictments and convictions significantly disrupted the activities of this group, FBI-Newark assesses that the group has, at least partially, reconstituted and is likely responsible for a number of recent high-end residential burglaries in the area," Chief Torre wrote. In Berkeley Heights, Sgt. Frank Fortunato confirmed that two residential burglaries took place on Roland Road in late January. The burglaries occurred during the late morning or early afternoon hours and the suspects escaped with thousands of dollars of electronic equipment and jewelry. In both instances, entry was forced and phone lines were cut. Sgt. Fortunato said forensic evidence is being analyzed by the Investigations Division and an investigation is underway. Chief Torre said that about seven years ago there was a rash of front door kick-in burglaries in which phone lines were cut in New Providence. Those arrested were part of the group dubbed the James Bond Gang. "As with any arrest, we get the actors off the street while incarcerated but, eventually, they get out, and many go back to business as usual," Chief Torre wrote. While there are no open cases in New Providence, Chief Torre urged residents to be extra cautious in case history repeats itself and to immediately report any suspicious activities to the police. Residents should be on the look-out for vehicles driving unusually slowly in their neighborhoods. They could be casing homes and, in the past, the favored mode of transportation was an SUV. People going around neighborhoods ringing doorbells should also be noted with suspicion, according to law enforcement officials. Seven years ago the burglars would ring the doorbell and upon getting no answer, cut the phone lines to disable alarms and then kick in the front doors. "We believe they were only in the houses a few minutes then exited through the rear to a car waiting on an adjacent street," Chief Torre said. Three Reputed Members of the "James Bond Gang" Indicted in Connection with Dozens of N.J. and N.Y. Burglaries http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/nj/press/files/ja0529_r.htm NEWARK - Three men believed to be part of a larger gang that committed dozens of burglaries in upscale homes in New Jersey and New York were indicted today, U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie and Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli announced. The defendants are suspected of being part of what came to be known as the "James Bond" burglary gang, a moniker taken from a crew of burglars who once modified a BMW with secret compartments to conceal loot, an oil-jet system to slicken the road behind them and hidden, bright halogen headlamps to defeat pursuing police vehicles. "These were slick operators who did a lot of damage over the years," Christie said. "Their high-tech modus operandi didn't save them in the end."

'James Bond' burglary gang vet convicted again
NEWARK, N.J. - A former member of the notorious "James Bond Gang" that terrorized northern New Jersey in the 1980s and 90s is headed back to prison again.
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wi...,5037230.story A federal jury in Newark found David Kirkland guilty Friday of conspiracy and transporting stolen goods across state lines. Testimony from former gang members helped convict him. Kirkland faces a possible 25-year sentence. The 41-year-old Kirkland served a five-year term in federal prison but returned to a life of crime after his release. The Bond gang earned its nickname by eluding police in a custom sports car equipped with secret compartments and a retractable license plate. The gang stole millions of dollars in cash and jewelry in hundreds of burglaries in the New York metropolitan area.

James Bond Gang Member Arrested
BERKELEY HEIGHTS – Police have arrested a known member of the James Bond Gang after they used a LOJACK computer software program to track a computer he is alleged to have stolen from a Berkeley Heights home.
On Dec. 18 Det. Patrick Moran arrested Dayron Johnson, 35, of Passaic. After a several month-long investigation, and following a Ridge Drive burglary on March 4, 2009, Det. Moran was able to gather information as to the whereabouts of a computer stolen from the residence. The computer was tracked utilizing a LOJACK computer software program, which enabled officers to obtain a search warrant for Johnson’s residence. The search warrant was executed by Det. Sgt. Mathis, Detectives Williams, Ives and Moran and two members of the Mountainside Police Department, at which time the stolen property was recovered. The stolen computer was valued at $1,272. Johnson was subsequently brought to police headquarters and charged with receiving stolen property, a third degree crime. Further investigation revealed that Johnson is a known member of the James Bond Gang, a group of individuals who were involved in numerous burglaries in northern and central New Jersey and have an extensive criminal history. Bail was set at $75,000 by Berkeley Heights Municipal Court Judge Donald Bogosian. Johnson was then lodged in the Union County Jail awaiting a first appearance on January 4, 2010. The Berkeley Heights Police Department reminds residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or persons immediately by calling 908-464-1111.

Police: New 'James Bond Gang' at Work
MYFOXNY.COM - The so-called James Bond gang may be back and hitting high-end neighborhoods in Bergen County, N.J., and Rockland County, N.Y.
Police in New Jersey and New York believe this group is an offshoot of the original James Bond gang of the 1980s and 1990s that used a tricked-out BMW and other made-for-Hollywood ploys to evade police and steal from the rich. "These individulas are professional criminals," said Englewood Police Chief Arthur O'Keefe. "These are individuals who take time in cutting telephone phone lines trying to disable alarms." Police said the thieves are in the homes just a few minutes and make out with as much as $100,000 in jewels and cash. One couple confronted a suspected James Bond gang member in her backyard and scared him away. Later that day a task force of north New Jersey police officers arrested Englewood residents Diandre Mikell, Jason Mikell, and Jerry Montgomery. Police say Montgomery was part of the original James Bond gang. "They recruit younger guys who have no records so when they get caught the younger guy can they take it," Englewood Detective Lt. Tim Torell said. All of these suspects and others arrested in Rockland County, N.Y., are out of bail. Police believe there are about a dozen members working in three- to four-man crews. Cops are asking for tips from the public to help them catch more members of second coming of this sophisticated band of robbers. http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/poli...-work-20110425
