I tell you what gents, the impression I (and quite a few others I suppose) get of the US is that people are fairly optimistic and patriotic. Just from the quick glance I've had at some of these posts, it's not the case at all. I thought all was happy and stable at your end? Strange the perspectives of those on the inside and the outside of certain things.

Incidentally, somebody said earlier about changing the language? Forgive my ignorance, but what would that be due to? I know it'a light-hearted, but I'm not as up as I should be on US business. I'm studying US politics at the mo at A-Level so it helps!

I am going to put that in three parts

A: Your impression> We have a president who won the election because he has a brother who is the governor of florida, and since technicaly Al Gore won the election bush had his brother screw up the florida vote which made him win.
Our country had a huge surplus of money and becuase of bush, now we have a deficit in the high billions. And we are hemorageing money (on bulls**T) like its nothing.
we are in a war that we have no chance of winning and GWB doesnt care. Patriotism is now a crime as well as being a native born us citizen. We have a dictator fro president.

B: Language> Since we are being invaded by an army of illegal imigrants who want the country to abide by their customs and not ours, and becuase of our eqaul opportuninty rules. they can play the race card and win any battle they want. And since this country has no balls anymore our government is giving in to the invaders commands. Screw this eqaul opportunity crap. IF YOU ARE AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT YOU HAVE NO DAMN RIGHTS! And now children of illegals are getting government grants and scholarships that should be going to legal americans. As much as i Hate the KKK and white supremesist...the idea is something to think about. Maybe not to the extent that they are taking it but if you toned it down and marketed it the right way "we the people" could take our country back. I am not one of those people who will kill them in lynch mobs and burn a cross in their front yard or yell racial slurs to them, but what the hell did our verterans fight and die for?

C: What we have heard about your end of the atlantic> nothing. Unless someone powerfull has died or something very bad happens (your subway and bus attack last year) our media doesnt care. All our media cares about is chaos. There is a song by the Band "Nevermore" That has a lyric that fits perfectly with this. The song is "Final Product" The lryic is as follows " The media loves the recent tragic suicide, they exploit it, and package it, and profit from the the people who died"
I am pretty sure there are great things that happen in your country all the time but our media doesnt care. Watch the Movie "Bowling For Columbine" and you will see how our media works.

Oh, where do I begin? You're all over the place, dethman007. First You want a revolution, then You're kind of supporting racism and finally You recommend a Michael Moore film. I'm having a hard time figuring out what You really want us to read into this statement. I guess You know that America was built on "this equal opportunity crap" and that a revolution is for the people by the people, and all about sticking it to the man. And I might be from another part of the world, but even I know that Your veterans (are we talking WW1, WW2, Vietnam or the Gulf War) didn't fight and die for the KKK.

Yeah thats one of the problems of having ADHD or whatever the hell the doctors say i have. I jump from thing to thing and not staying with one thing. I cant get my mind to focus in one area. Pills are a joke, i tried them and they made it worst.

We've been having fairly similar issues at our end too, to a degree. Our prime minister, Gordon Brown, was appointed, not elected. He threatened to call an election, but when he saw he'd probably lose, he's delayed it until probably another two/three years. He only started in the summer, and in the past few months he's managed to lose a huge proportion of the personal data of the British public, his government don't know how many illegal immigrants are coming in and has no idea how many Eastern Europeans are coming over. He plans to lose the U.K's sovereignty to the E.U without asking the British people and it seems that a number of people in his party have been taking significant funds behind everyone's backs

So not brilliant over here really. And we're still going nowhere in afghanistan, and doesn't look like we will either.

I'm not what to make of Your last statement, deathman, but I sure would like to hear more about part B in Your previous contribution. Illegal immigration sure make a lot of Americans angry these days, and I can't really see why. Everyone's an immigrant in the US of A, and a lot of You were illegal in the beginning. And if You ship out the illegals of today, who's gonna do all the dirty jobs in the future?

This reminds me of a political cartoon that our Civics teacher gave to us to analyze. It was a Native American holding a newspaper and in the big and bold headline it says, "NEW IMMIGRATION POLICY" and under it was the Native American's thoughts saying 'A few hundred years too late...' So I'll have to agree with pegsman on the immigration thing.

I would LOVE to do the dirty jobs. ANY freaking job. I was laid off over a month ago I cant even get a fast food job to make ends meet. THEY took all of them. I used to work at a BK and I was trying to get my job back. I know most Dirty Jobs are in fields, but this is Massachusetts the only fields here belong to rich people and the illegal immigrants do landscaping on them. MA's Presidental Candidate Mitt Romney Got Busted twice on that subject. Most Recently...it was in the news yesterday. (after he got busted, He fired the guy who did the work) I WOULD TAKE A DAMN LANDSCAPING JOB! I know its hard work, but dammit, its money.

I know that we americans are immigrants, but we did it for a better life from british rule. We had a damn war to earn it. The ones who come here now dont care about this country. They come here, work a few months, earn a few thousand, and then go back to their country and live the high life. that is why all the employment agencys who do temp hiring are filled with Immigrants.

The American Revolution took place in the 1770's, and was a revolt by the English-Americans against the British rulers of the 13 colonies. The immigrants came about 50 years later, most of them were from Scandinavia, Italy, China and Ireland, and just like the immigrants of today they were dirt poor. Immigrants aren't bad people or evil in any way, they're just trying to stay alive. You would be better off directing Your anger towards the agencys who exploit these people and pay them next to nothing. How can they care about America when they're treated almost like slaves?

If they came here hoping to get "the American dream" aka: a better life. By busting their ass to earn their citizenship and make something out of themselves, then my hat goes off to them, I have no problem with them. Its all the others that come here illegaly that don't give a Sh** about this country and want to use our reasorces and then go back to there country with our money, that i hate.

Case and point. There is this girl I dated a few years ago. (we broke up because i had to go back to indiana to finish high school) A few months after we broke up she met some Ilegal from Brazil. He got her pregnant and they got married he then became a legal. Well 9/11 happened and because of some weird terrorist thing he was deported. Well he got back into this country by (what he says was perfectly legal) but what everyone else says as he bribed a boarder patrol officer. They got back together and had another kid. He got a job at landscaping and from what I heard he was using his job connections to get his reletives into the country. Now the season has ended and he refuses to find another and is just collecting unemployment untill the season starts up again. (Screwing our country) Plus he wont even watch his own damn kids unless his wife pays him to. She is busting her ass to on her job to pay the bills and do everything else that money is needed to do in this country. While he just sits around and goes to the bars to get drunk with his unemployment.

That whole story my sister told me. My sister watched the girls kids and the girl pays her to do it. I have asked the question of why no one called INS on this and I have never gotten a good answer.
