James Bond Debate Thread!
I can bet a thread like this has already been made. If it has, then I guess Perminisconious (I'll never feel right calling you Perm...I'm not high up enough) or thuffner can close this.
If it hasn't...then welcome to the James Bond Debate Thread. Here I am going to post specific topics that are most likely to differ from Bond fan to Bond fan. WARNING:IF YOU CAN'T KEEP YOURSELF FROM INSULTING ONE OF OUR MEMBERS IN THIS THREAD, DON'T BOTHER POSTING HERE! Alright, the first topic is: Desmond Llewellyn or John Cleese as Q?

I will only say Llewelyn because I have not seen Cleese to the extent that I can make a definitive judgment on him as Q. Also, I just think back to classic goldfinger and that was it for me.....

Relieved of duty.

Well, of course, Desmond Llewelyn will always be the beloved Q.
I mean, he plays Q in 17 James Bond movies. Cleese, on the other hand, is doing a great job to "replace" Desmond. In my opinion, Desmond is better. |

Alright, thanks for your feedback. I think I'm going to modify the topic a little.
Is John Cleese doing a good job filling Desmond Llewellyn's shoes?

In a word, absolutely. To both actors, its always been amazing the attention the role of Q attracts given its limited role, and in no short way is the fame of the role also the fame of Desmond. It really is HIS role, espically when you think about the literal non-exsistent role of Q in LALD without Desmond, and the forgettable Dr. No performance. So, when you take into account this role really was all up to Desmond, John Cleese has done a great job filling the shoes. He is a known comedian, and it makes the transition to the role eaiser. Also too, because both Brosnan and Cleese endured the loss of Desmond together, I think it added a bit to their chemistry which has benifited his performances.
The real question in what happens is this: Will Cleese alter the role, and if so how? Afterall there really isnt much breathing room with Q, although one wouldnt think there was much breathing room with M either, but there has been an evolution. Or will this just be forever Desmonds part?

I'd say yes. He is doing a good job at filling Desmond's quirkiness, but he is still no Desmond.
