Goldfinger: TCM's 15 Most Influential Soundtracks

Barry and Martin make the list........

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) - With it being awards season and the Grammys taking place on Sunday, Turner Classic Movies has made a list of the 15 most ground-breaking and influential film soundtracks.

http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7017656889

The list includes some of the most unforgettable music scores to appear in film. The earliest, Max Steiner's career-establishing work for 1933's "King Kong." The last groundbreaking soundtrack according to TCM is 1977's "Star Wars" soundtrack by John Williams. You can start humming that now.

Appearing twice on the list is Bernard Herrman for 1951's "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and his score for 1960's "Psycho," whose screeching violins became as iconic as Hitchcock himself.

A few major pop acts are credited with some of the most influential soundtracks as well, including The Beatles' "Hard Day's Night," Isaac Hayes' "Shaft" score, and the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack by The BeeGees.

"It is nearly impossible to think of certain films without remembering their music scores. Casablanca, Laura, An Affair to Remember, The Magnificent Seven - the list is endless," said TCM host and film historian Robert Osborne. "Our list celebrates the most memorable and groundbreaking soundtracks, the ones which took the art of film music to new levels and made the most lasting impact on the world of movies."

This year's Grammy nominations includes nod for the soundtracks from "Twilight," "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," and Disney/Pixar's "Up," among others.

So true! My favorite of the soundtrack is where Bond finds a gold-painted Masterson - some chilling (awesome) music!

Blackboard Jungle is an interesting choice and looking back the music does alot to influence the atmosphere. I know this was tough list to compose since composers like Herrmann and Williams have made so many great scores. Personally I also would have included Herrmann's score for Cape Fear.

I think one image most often miss is before you see Masterson's body, Oddjob's shadow. It says so much about his character; He has great power but he's quiet.

I always liked the master John Williams many soundtracks, probably his JAWS theme had the most impact for me, and the tune is still associated with culture we still have today. Nobody goes to the beach or around water without the greatest tune ever for Danger in their minds,It's definately in the top 100 ever.....

Agreed.

And I also agree, JAMESHOT, about John Williams. He'd be awesome for a Bond movie!

Well just like they never hired Speilberg I imagine the same reason, money honey. There is no way Williams is going to come cheap.

I don't think they really ever wanted an American director for Bond ,Same for the composer , and no American to ever play Bond ...Somehow I think Cubby & family did the right thing.

According to Roger Moore Spielberg was not hired by Cubby because he would be just too expensive, it's not really bias against Americans. Also speaking about Bond actors, both John Gavin and James Brolin were officially contracted to be James Bond; However they both were dumped in favor of the returns of Sean Connery and Roger Moore.

Actually it was Moore who is qouted in his new book "My Word is My Bond" as saying.....apon hearing news that Spielberg was a huge Bond fan and said that he would love to direct one of the films.
....,.'I was rather excited at this news and went looking for Broccoli (film producer Albert R. 'Cubby' Broccoli) to tell him.

But Broccoli, who steered the Bond franchise over three decades, shook his head and asked....'Do you know how much of a percentage he'd want?'

Gavin was contracted in 1970 to replace George Lazenby, James Brolin was contracted in 1983, to replace Roger Moore, and prepared to shoot Octopussy when the producers paid Moore to return.............................Thank God they did...................

Yeah that's the quote I was thinking about.

I wonder if the public would have bought it.

What Brolin as Bond ? Those screen test clips with him are really scary and with Bond girl veteran Maud Adams.. . From that alone it would of never worked for me and I'am pretty sure the Brits would of been scratching their heads also and perhaps protesting at EON'S door... I'll say it again no american should ever play Bond it should be sacred.....
