I've seen some threads about different authors (e.g Stephen King), so I wondered what is your favourite book/s is/are?
My favourite book (well collection of books) is His Dark Materials trilogy, by Philip Pullman, which is Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. A great story of friendship, mystery, and adventure through a fantasy world. A modern day Lord Of The Rings. Although, I've never actually read any LOTR books, but I've seen the films. Great books, I would recommend them to anybody.

I love the Roma Sub Rosa series by Steven Saylor. It's about the investigations of a man by the name of Gordianus the Finder, the Ancient Roman equivalent of a private eye. He investigates actual historical cases for clients such as Cicero, Caesar et cetera. Magnificently researched, brilliantly written and tremendously entertaining stuff.

If you are big into Star Trek and the behind the scenes stuff, then I would recommend all of the non-fiction Trek books written by William Shatner. They are all very interesting and informative. He has a way of writing that makes it feel like he is really talking to you. The books I'd recommend are
Star Trek Memories Star Trek Movie Memories Up Till Now (Shatner's autobiography) A really good book about fans of Trek is also by Shatner. It is called "Get a Life!" The name of the book was suggested by Trekkies and isn't a bash against them. It is probably my favorite book dealing with Star Trek. It is about the history of Star Trek conventions and Shatner also personally interviews Star Trek fans and they give their reasons why Trek is so important to their lives. A really good non-Trek book I am reading is Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. It is the book that the TV series Dexter is based. This is my favorite novel right now. It is such a great story that I read 150 pages in a day (that is a lot for me)

I feel like it's kind of cliche, but I really love 1984.

My three favorite authors would have to be Agatha Christie, Neil Gaiman, and Philippa Gregory.
But my two favorite books ever would be: "Why Didn't they Ask Evans" - Christie "Neverwhere" - Gaiman |

I just finished reading Rohinton Mistry's "A Fine Balance". A stunning book, and the writing is superb but I found it somewhat heartbreaking - the reality of the tragedies that beset the characters really got under my skin. I really recommend it to anyone who wants a genuinely good read, and a bit of an insight into what it's really like to live in a third world country in crisis.
