Contributions: Born on February 5, 1921 in Berlin, Germany, Sir Ken Adam is one of Hollywood's best production designers. In 2003, Queen Elizabeth II knighted Adam. The James Bond world was fortunate enough to start out with Adam as head of the production design on the set of Dr. No. He is famous for creating sets that reflect no specific time period, instead blends old fashioned with modern with futuristic. This concept is quite apparent in Goldfinger, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice. He also designed the sets for Diamonds are Forever, The Spy Who Loved Me, and Moonraker. Adam also designed sets for the movies Dr. Strangelove, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Addams Family Values.

He has won two Academy Awards and was nominated for three more, including The Spy Who Loved Me. Adam was always appreciated by directors for his creativity, and his ability to keep his sets well within the budget. From a simple, inexpensive sets in Dr. No to much more elaborate space stations and castles in Moonraker, his products worked at the time of the film's release, but never lost their relevance and stand timeless today. Ken Adam was reunited with the world of James Bond when he was able to design the sets for the video game, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent. Current Bond set designers tribute Adam and thank him for setting the bar so high, knowing that any set less than great would be frowned upon by his work from the early days.
