Contributions: On February 14, 1929 in Ontario, Canada, Lois Maxwell was welcomed into the world. Playing the famous Miss Moneypenny in 14 James Bond movies, Maxwell became an icon in the world of James Bond. Ironically, Maxwell was a good friend of James Bond #3 Roger Moore from the beginning of her career. "Dr. No" was her first film, and she went all the way through "A View to a Kill." She left the series because she felt she was too old to still be flirtatious with James Bond. Maxwell created the light hearted and extremely romantic secretary always waiting for James Bond to walk through her office into M's office. Her constant eagerness to catch Bond's eye was not only adorable, but well executed by the actress.
Unfortunately, Maxwell's follower, Caroline Bliss, could never live up to the image of Moneypenny Maxwell had worked so hard to create. Lois Maxwell's facial expressions, voice, and physical mannerisms added to the character, making her memorable, rather than just another assistant in the office, or just another obstacle keeping Bond from going into M's office. The writers of the movies had a lot of fun writing dialogue for Maxwell, seeing how far she would go, and what she would allow her character to say in order to steal a moment with James Bond. Maxwell was always a source of dignity in the series, and character that fans would feel empty without.
