Contributions: Roger Moore was born on October 14, 1927 in London, England. Moore's big break came when he was cast on the hit television show, "The Saint." James Bond was a character that had always been played very serious and appealing to women sexually. Moore started playing the world-famous spy in 1973's "Live and Let Die" and his seven-film series ended with 1985's "A View To A Kill." Many believe that Moore was far too old to play the character, and his age really shows in "Octopussy" and "A View to a Kill." Moore was not only the shortest actor to play Bond, he was also the oldest. He started the series at the ripe age of 46 and ended at the age 57. Fellow cast members have said that Moore was a bit lazy when it came to preparing for filming. He always allowed the character to come to him naturally. Moore once said, "My personality is entirely different than previous Bonds. I'm not that cold-blooded killer type. Which is why I play it mostly for laughs." He succeeded at creating the funniest James Bond to date.
Roger Moore has been awarded several honors for his endless contribution to charities. He is a hands-on worker, and helps in the fight against poverty and starvation in third world countries by contributing to the United Nation's Children's Fund (UNICEF). Some believe that he is almost like an angel, which is quite a turn around from the character he played in the 007 movies. Moore's era of Bond films seemed to turn into live action cartoons, to some degree, making them perhaps the most fun group of films in the series. His era housed loony characters, such as Sheriff J. W. Pepper, Jaws, and Max Zorin. This almost childish humor was quite a switch from the Sean Connery era, and the light-hearted feel of the films came to a screeching halt with Timothy Dalton's dead-serious interpretation. Moore has had the longest run as the famous spy, and many Bond fans of newer generations look back at his work and see a different genre to the series. Roger Moore shined as Bond, and shines as himself.
