The Hollywood Reporter briefly mentioned in a recent article that Daniel Craig's tenure as James Bond will last for at least four more James Bond movies - surpassing Pierce Brosnan's total of times portraying the famous secret agent.

[MGM chairman and CEO Harry Sloan] also said that MGM is typically the seventh-place studio among the seven majors. "We need to show that MGM can get somewhere in the middle of the pack," which he guessed would make MGM a $12 billion company. Sony and others paid $5 billion for MGM in 2004.

MGM missed several trends, like satellite and cable TV, though it won't miss upcoming opportunities. "There's going to be more change in the next five years than occurred over the past 35," he said.

He called franchises "the base of any studio," which is why he signed Daniel Craig to do four more James Bond films and he's planning on resurrecting the "Fame," "Death Wish" and "Thomas Crown Affair" franchises.

Pretty significant news here.

As I stated earlier, Craig will have done a total of five 007 movies after his time is done. That means, before a second of on screen time in his second outing, Bond movie filmmakers are banking on the fact that Craig's Bond will outlast Brosnan's as the world's iconic secret agent. Five films for Craig will put him at number three on the Bond movie actors list, behind Sean Connery (with six official films) and Roger Moore (with seven).

I wouldn't call this move by the franchise as premature (as the potential for Craig's Bond is limitless as seen in Casino Royale) but I definitely wonder the details ($$$) of the deal. Will Craig get a percentage of the profits from the next film? Are there incentives for him if box office figures are higher than estimated?

No doubt Craig is cashing in on his performance in Casino Royale - and no doubt he deserves a lot for his potential as the character alone.
