A Bond Wedding in 'Quantum'?
Posted on January 29, 2008 1:36 PM
An article at RTE.ie peaked my interest for a few minutes earlier today - first as a groundbreaking news story, but then a minute or so later as an interesting setting for the plot.
Before I comment on the prospect of a James Bond wedding number two (for those unaware, Bond has been hitched before!), here is the text from the article:
British actress Gemma Arterton has hinted that James Bond may tie the knot in the forthcoming 007 movie.
The 22-year-old star told a US TV reporter that she and Daniel Craig had been shooting scenes in a honeymoon suite for the film, which is titled 'Quantum of Solace'.
The surprised journalist asked: "Honeymoon suite?", prompting Arterton to reply: "I think I've said too much."
The actress, who can currently be seen in 'St Trinian's', plays an MI6 agent working at the British consulate in Bolivia in the new Bond film.
Bond has previously been married on screen. In the 1969 movie 'On Her Majesty's Service', George Lazenby's Bond married Tracy Draco (Diana Rigg). However, she was murdered in a drive-by shooting on their wedding day.
As stated in the article, our beloved Bond was married once before - in 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service to Tracy Draco. Check out a picture of them cutting the cake with Tracy's dad behind her:

Poignantly 1969
The prospect of a wedding in the upcoming Bond movie would be just ass monumental as it was in 1969. Undoubtedly, Bond's marriage to Tracy was one of the most poignant events in the James Bond franchise ever.
Bond, showing more humility than ever before (and after, aside from his confession of love to Vesper in 2006's Casino Royale) is enthralled to have married the love of his life, Tracy Draco. For once, Bond seems to truly be a one-woman man.
Sadly, however tragically memorable, Tracy is assassinated as the couple make their way from the reception and on to their lives together. This event was one of the most surprising ever in a Bond movie - and to this day I can only imagine my reaction in a crowded theater at the end credits of the movie. I would have more than likely stood their stunned, waiting for each credit to pass by for evidence of the end of a dream sequence or something of the like.
Not So Fast, Mrs. Bond
Don't start ringing the wedding bells yet for James. More than likely, the 'honeymoon suite' that the two will share is part of an undercover operation (which Bond has of course been through before - even in Royale to an extent, although I don't think that was a 'honeymoon' suite).
You get where I am coming from - Bond, along with fellow MI6 agent Fields played by Gemma Arterton, disguise themselves as a married couple to somehow infiltrate a city or organization that will more than likely be headed of Mathieu Amalric's villainous character. An interesting detail of the plot (just how close will Bond and Fields get?) - and who knows, maybe I could be wrong.
Regardless, I always find pleasure in discussing past Bond occurrences and how they relate to current Bond practices.
