Quantum Of Solace Teaser Trailer
WOW.
Where to begin???
How about Bond's return to the air in a solo action flight sequence? The return of a car chase? The interrogation? Gemma Arterton in her birthday suit (!)?
OR M's "FIND BOND!"???
The world premiere of the teaser trailer can finally assure anxious Bond fans that yes, the movie is coming!
REVENGE
From the looks of the trailer, Bond is scorned to say the least - so much vengeance and anger comes out! This comes contrary to previous comments made by Daniel Craig, Marc Forster, etc. who said that the film will be less about revenge and more about Bond finding himself. I think they may have shortchanged us with Bond's mental state - but all the better!
Even the first few lines..."I was always very interested to meet you. I'd heard so much about you from Vesper." made me wince at the thought of Bond's anger as Mr. White sit helpless in the interrogation chair. Ouch! This sarcastic and brutal line to Bond fuels the entire trailer (including some never-before-seen-in-a-Bond-trailer shots of a previous Bond movie - Eva Green's Vesper from Craig's first outing in Casino Royale). Does the interrogation get physical? Will Bond lend Mr. White the similar "favors" that Bond received from Le Chiffre?
Most likely not (with M at Bond's side), but the urgency and strict orders M spouts off by the end of the trailer suggest that Bond has committed some major act of insubordination.
Sure, Bond has never been perfect with authority, but M's quote ("Restrict Bond's movements! Put a stop on his passports!") sounds like Bond may have gone over the line in pursuing the head of the "organization" (Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), who makes a brief cameo in the trailer).
Does Bond kill Mr. White against orders???
Bond may have not seen this much discipline since his licence to kill was temporarily revoked by M in 1989's Licence To Kill after similar rogue behavior.
Find Bond?
And who does M order to find Bond? Agent Fields (Gemma Arterton)?
If so, I think she eventually finds him - judging from the steamy screen shot of them together in bed!
The return of Jeffrey Wright's Felix Leiter on screen was also notably refreshing (I'm sure most Bond fans would have the same sentiment) in that Bond's "brother from Langley" not only returns but aids Bond when he has no business doing so. It was this pairing that added extra positive substance to past Bond movies where the two worked together. This was of course puzzlingly removed by Bond movie makers - and it looks like the nostalgic fansite campaign to "Bring Felix Back" as a mainstay in Bond movies from some time ago has succeeded.
"When you can't tell your friends from your enemies it's time to go."
Excuse my frankness, but WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN???
A Bond double cross??? Time to go? Does M order Bond dead at one point?
My head is starting to hurt, and I love it!
In summary, the trailer is a brutal glimpse into what Bond faces in his willingness to avenge Vesper's death - just about as brutal as the featured trailer fight sequence where Bond mercilessly plunges a knife into a henchman's (?) throat.
