Activision Unveils New GoldenEye 007(TM) for Wii(TM) at 2010 Electronic Entertainment Exposition
SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- With eight million copies sold and a legion of passionate fans worldwide, the Nintendo 64 version of GoldenEye defined multiplayer gaming for a generation of gamers in 1997.

Now, a new take on the legendary James Bond adventure arrives with Activision Publishing's (Nasdaq: ATVI) all-new GoldenEye 007, which was unveiled at Nintendo's press briefing, held today during the Electronic Entertainment Exposition (E3) in Los Angeles.

Developed exclusively for Wii and based on the GoldeneEye film, GoldenEye 007 gives players the chance to use the lethal, gritty style of Daniel Craig's James Bond to outwit, outmaneuver and overtake an arms syndicate that threatens the world in an innovative, modern take on the legendary GoldenEye movie adventure. The game, which is slated for release this holiday season, is playable in Nintendo's booth in the West Hall, #5407.

"GoldenEye for the N64 was one of the most acclaimed games and fans regularly cite it as one of the most influential and important titles in history," said David Pokress, Head of Marketing for Licensed Properties, Activision Publishing. "We're thrilled to bring the new GoldenEye 007 to gamers around the world as an all-new adventure that seamlessly integrates nostalgic GoldenEye movie moments with innovative FPS gameplay and unique multiplayer action that is unrivaled on the platform."

GoldenEye 007 features an unprecedented lineup of four-player split-screen MP options that encourage social gaming, including 40 total characters, 8 classic Bond characters, 5 maps, 3 standard modes and 16 special modifiers that allow gamers to create hundreds of game combinations. GoldenEye 007 also features online multiplayer for up to 8 players designed for seasoned FPS online gamers with unique modes and a robust XP system for unlockables and achievements. GoldenEye 007 also supports the Classic Controller Pro™ for gamers who want to play with standard FPS controls and the Wii Zapper™ for "point and shoot" gamers; players will have several control scheme options, allowing them to experience GoldenEye 007 on Wii any way they want.

The GoldenEye 007 video game is developed by Eurocom under license from EON Productions Ltd and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM). For more information about the game, visit www.goldeneyegame.com.

...end update

James Bond video game fans have been lighting up cyberspace over the past few days with some tidbits that seem to be leaking regarding the next 007 video game installment.

Rumors swirled that the new Activision title was called Bloodstone and would be a another driving/racing game similar to the 007 Racing game that was released in 2000.

Previous rumors also stated that a revamped version of GoldenEye 007 was also on the horizon after a game developer's resume slip-up revealed work on such a game was forthcoming.

GoldnEye Wii 2010?

Now, Joystiq reports that game developer Activision has registered the domain name goldeneyegame.com - furthering previous echoes of a GoldenEye 007-like first person shooter for the Nintendo Wii platform.

The Joystiq article:

Activision registers new domain for GoldenEye game
The saga of a new GoldenEye game -- or the possible re-release of the original -- has acquired yet another new wrinkle. Said wrinkle comes in the form of a new internet domain registered by Activision. The domain in question, uncovered by superannuation, is goldeneyegame.com, which certainly points to some sort of revival for the storied title. While the prospects of an actual re-release of Rare's N64 classic have been all but crushed, an artist's resume discovered in October 2009 did mention work on a GoldenEye 2010 for Activision.

Assuming the resume was accurate, Activision could be securing the domain in advance of an announcement. It's also unclear if any of this ties into James Bond: Bloodstone, the alleged title of the Bond game in development at Bizarre. We know Activision has Bond plans for 2010, but could the company be preparing us for a double-0 dose of espionage, perhaps rolling out a new version of GoldenEye to drum up interest for Bloodstone? Or maybe the company is simply getting its ducks in a row in case it does decide to revive GoldenEye.

Whatever it is, something is definitely stirring/shaking at Activision.

This sort of a game rehash shouldn't be surprising to video game buffs, as game developers know how nostalgic gamers can be. Recent titles that are getting the reboot are NBA Jam for the Nintendo Wii and Tecmo Bowl Throwback on the Playstation Network/XBox Live Arcade.

Bond video game fans will also remember a BondMovies.com article from February where it was confirmed that GoldenEye 007 weapons and levels will be ported to the Perfect Dark video game download on the XBox Live Arcade in March 2010. Great news for GoldenEye 007 fans!
